Peterbilt 567/579 Lights

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 567/579 Lights

Will these lights fit both my Peterbilt 567 and 579 models, and what years are compatible?

Most aftermarket lights in this category are designed to fit Peterbilt 567 models from 2013-present and Peterbilt 579 models from 2012-present. However, there can be slight variations between model years, particularly in the headlight buckets and mounting points. We recommend checking the specific product description for exact year compatibility, as some LED upgrades may require different adapters for pre-2018 models versus newer trucks.

Do I need special wiring harnesses or adapters to install LED lights on my Peterbilt?

Most LED headlights and fog lights will require anti-flicker harnesses or load resistors to prevent hyperflashing and dashboard error codes. Standard halogen-to-LED conversions typically need these adapters, which are often sold separately. For plug-and-play installations, look for lights specifically labeled as "no adapter required" or those that come with built-in CANbus modules. Marker lights and interior lights usually don't require special adapters.

What's the actual difference in brightness and visibility between LED and standard halogen lights?

LED headlights typically produce 8,000-12,000 lumens compared to 1,000-1,500 lumens from standard halogens, providing 3-4 times more light output. The color temperature difference is also significant - LEDs produce a crisp white light (5,000-6,500K) versus the yellowish halogen light (3,000K). This translates to approximately 200-300 feet more visible distance at night and significantly better visibility in rain or fog conditions.

How difficult is the installation process, and what tools will I need?

Headlight installation typically takes 30-45 minutes per side and requires basic hand tools: Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, 10mm and 13mm sockets, and possibly trim removal tools. The main challenge is accessing the back of the headlight housing, which may require removing the inner fender liner. Marker lights and cab lights are generally easier, taking 10-15 minutes each. Professional installation runs $150-300 if you prefer not to DIY.

Are chrome or blackout style lights legal for on-road use, and will they pass DOT inspection?

Look for lights marked as DOT/SAE compliant for legal road use. Chrome housings with clear lenses are typically DOT approved, while blackout or smoked lenses may not be street legal in all states. LED headlights must have proper beam patterns to pass inspection - avoid lights advertised solely for "off-road use." Always verify your state's specific requirements, as regulations vary. Most reputable manufacturers will clearly mark their DOT-compliant products.
