Peterbilt 389 Refrigerators & Mounting Kits

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 389 Refrigerators & Mounting Kits

Will a refrigerator from this category fit my Peterbilt 389 without modification?

Most refrigerators and mounting kits listed in this category are designed to work with the factory sleeper compartments and mounting points found in the Peterbilt 389, but sleeper configurations can vary by model year and cab option. Check the listed dimensions and mounting hole patterns against your sleeper space before ordering, and reach out to our team if you are unsure about fitment for your specific truck.

What size refrigerator should I choose for my sleeper cab?

Refrigerator size depends on the available space in your sleeper, your power setup, and how much storage you need on the road. Compact units are a good fit for smaller sleepers or drivers who want to save space, while larger units offer more storage for extended trips. Measure your available cabinet or mounting space carefully, including clearance for the door to open, before selecting a unit.

Do I need a separate mounting kit, or does the refrigerator come with one?

This varies by product. Some refrigerators are sold as standalone units and require a separate mounting kit to secure them properly in your Peterbilt 389, while others may include basic mounting hardware. Review each product listing closely to confirm whether a mounting kit is included or needs to be purchased separately.

How is the refrigerator powered, and will it drain my truck's battery?

Most 12-volt truck refrigerators are designed to run off your truck's electrical system and are built to be efficient enough for overnight use without significantly draining a healthy battery. That said, running any refrigerator for extended periods while the engine is off will draw down battery power, so many drivers pair these units with an auxiliary power source, inverter, or APU to avoid starting issues.

How difficult is it to install a mounting kit myself?

Mounting kits are generally designed for straightforward installation using basic hand tools, and many drivers install them without professional help. Installation typically involves securing a bracket or frame to existing mounting points in the sleeper and then fastening the refrigerator to that frame. If your sleeper does not have pre-existing mounting points, you may need to drill and reinforce mounting locations, so review the included instructions before starting.
