Peterbilt 388 Gauges & Switches

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 388 Gauges & Switches

Will these gauges and switches fit my Peterbilt 388 without modification?

Most gauges and switches offered in this category are designed to match the factory dash layout and wiring configuration of the Peterbilt 388, but exact fit can vary depending on the model year and cab configuration of your truck. We recommend checking the specific part description and comparing it to your dash cutout size, mounting style, and connector type before ordering to ensure a proper fit.

Are these gauges and switches OEM or aftermarket replacements?

This category includes a mix of OEM-style replacement parts and aftermarket options. OEM-style gauges and switches are built to match the original look, function, and mounting of factory components, while aftermarket options may offer additional features or styling. Product listings will indicate whether an item is OEM-style or aftermarket so you can choose based on your preference and budget.

What do I need to know before installing a replacement gauge or switch?

Before installing, disconnect the battery to avoid electrical shorts, and take note of the wiring harness and connector type on your existing part. Many gauges and switches are direct plug-and-play replacements, but some may require matching wire colors or splicing connectors. If you are unfamiliar with automotive electrical work, having a qualified technician handle the installation is a good way to avoid wiring issues.

How do I know which switch or gauge matches the one currently in my truck?

The best way to confirm a match is to compare your current part's shape, size, connector style, and any printed part numbers or markings to the product details listed on our site. If you're unsure, removing the old switch or gauge and checking the back for identifying numbers can help you cross-reference it against the replacement options we carry.

Do these gauges and switches include the wiring harness or connectors needed for installation?

This depends on the specific product. Some gauges and switches come with a wiring pigtail or connector included, while others are sold as the gauge or switch only and require you to reuse your existing wiring harness. Check the product description and included components list for each item to confirm what is provided before you buy.
