Peterbilt 379 Refrigerators & Mounting Kits

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 379 Refrigerators & Mounting Kits

Will a refrigerator and mounting kit fit my Peterbilt 379 without modification?

Most refrigerators and mounting kits designed for the Peterbilt 379 are built to match the factory sleeper compartment layout, including existing mounting holes and bracket points. However, sleeper configurations can vary depending on the model year and cab style, so it is important to check the specific dimensions of the refrigerator and compare them to your available mounting space before purchasing. If you are unsure, measuring your current setup or comparing it to the manufacturer's spec sheet is the best way to confirm a proper fit.

What size refrigerator will fit in my Peterbilt 379 sleeper?

Refrigerator sizes for the 379 typically range from compact 1.5 to 4 cubic foot units, depending on the available cabinet or mounting space in your sleeper. Before choosing a unit, measure the width, height, and depth of the space where the refrigerator will sit, and compare those measurements to the product listing to make sure it will slide in and mount securely.

Do I need a separate mounting kit, or does the refrigerator come with one?

This varies by product. Some refrigerators are sold as standalone units and require a separate mounting kit or bracket to secure them properly in the cab, while others include mounting hardware as part of the package. Always check the product description carefully to confirm whether mounting hardware is included or needs to be purchased separately.

How is the refrigerator powered, and will it drain my truck's battery?

Most refrigerators designed for semi trucks run on 12-volt DC power and are built to be energy efficient for continuous use while parked or driving. That said, running any refrigerator for extended periods without the engine on will draw down your battery, so many drivers pair these units with an auxiliary power source, battery monitor, or idle management system to avoid unexpected battery drain. Check the manufacturer's power draw specifications if battery life is a concern for your setup.

How difficult is it to install the mounting kit myself?

Installation difficulty depends on the specific kit and whether you are replacing an existing unit or installing one for the first time. Many mounting kits are designed for straightforward bolt-in installation using existing holes or brackets in the sleeper, making it a manageable DIY project for someone comfortable with basic hand tools. If your kit requires cutting, drilling, or electrical work beyond a simple plug-in connection, it may be worth having a professional installer handle the job to ensure everything is secure and wired correctly.
