Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth W990 Hoods & Related

Will this hood fit my Kenworth W990 exactly, or will it need modification?

Hoods in this category are designed to match the factory fitment of the Kenworth W990, but exact fit can vary slightly depending on your truck's model year and any prior aftermarket modifications made to the front end. We recommend confirming your VIN and current hood configuration before ordering, and checking with our sales team if you have any doubts about compatibility.

Are these hoods made from fiberglass, or is there a metal option?

Most replacement and aftermarket hoods for the W990 are constructed from fiberglass, which is the standard material used for factory-style hoods on this model. Fiberglass offers a good balance of durability and weight savings compared to metal, and it can be repaired more easily if it sustains minor damage on the road.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, or will I need to paint them after purchase?

Hoods are typically sold primed or in a gel-coat finish rather than pre-painted in a specific color, since most fleets and owner-operators want to match their existing paint scheme. Plan on having the hood painted by a professional after installation to ensure a proper color match and finish.

What is involved in installing a replacement hood, and can I do it myself?

Installing a Kenworth W990 hood generally involves removing the damaged or old hood, transferring or replacing hardware such as hinges, latches, and mounting brackets, and then securing the new hood in place before reconnecting any lighting or grille components. While experienced techs and some owner-operators handle this in their own shop, it is a job that benefits from having a second person and proper lifting equipment due to the size and weight of the hood.

Are related components like hinges, latches, and brackets included with the hood, or sold separately?

In many cases, hardware such as hinges, latches, and mounting brackets are sold separately from the hood itself, since many customers are able to reuse their existing hardware if it is still in good condition. Check the specific product listing for each item to confirm exactly what is included before you complete your order.
