International ProStar Deck Plates & Air Line Boxes

Frequently Asked Questions About International ProStar Deck Plates & Air Line Boxes

What is the purpose of a deck plate and air line box on an International ProStar?

The deck plate is the flat, raised platform mounted behind the cab on the frame rails that provides a stable walking and standing surface for hooking up trailers. The air line box is typically integrated into or mounted near the deck plate and houses the air and electrical line connections, keeping the glad hands, hoses, and wiring organized, protected, and easily accessible during hookup.

Will a replacement deck plate or air line box fit my specific ProStar model year?

Deck plate and air line box designs can vary by ProStar production year due to frame width, mounting hole patterns, and factory updates over time. Always check the listed year range and OEM part number cross-reference on each product page, and compare your existing unit's dimensions and mounting points before ordering to confirm a proper fit.

What materials are these deck plates and air line boxes made from, and how do they hold up?

Most deck plates and air line boxes are constructed from steel or aluminum, with steel offering added strength and aluminum providing corrosion resistance and reduced weight. Since these components are constantly exposed to road debris, moisture, and foot traffic during hookups, look at the finish, such as painted, powder-coated, or mill finish aluminum, to match your durability needs and preference for maintenance.

Can I install a new deck plate or air line box myself, or does it require a shop?

Many drivers and fleet techs replace these components themselves since installation generally involves unbolting the damaged or worn unit from the frame and bolting on the replacement, then reconnecting air lines and electrical wiring. However, if your frame mounting points are bent, rusted through, or the wiring harness needs modification, having a qualified shop handle the install is recommended to ensure everything lines up correctly and functions safely.

Why would I need to replace my deck plate or air line box in the first place?

Common reasons include rust or corrosion from road salt and moisture exposure, cracked or bent plates from foot traffic and impact, and damaged or worn air line boxes that no longer seal or protect the connections properly. Replacing these parts promptly helps maintain a safe hookup platform and keeps your air and electrical connections protected from the elements.
