Western Star 4700 Truck Chrome Stacks & Tops

Frequently Asked Questions About Western Star 4700 Truck Chrome Stacks & Tops

What exactly are exhaust stacks and stack tops, and do I need both?

Exhaust stacks are the vertical exhaust pipes that route exhaust gases up and away from the cab, while stack tops (also called rain caps or exhaust tips) attach to the top of the stack to keep moisture and debris out while adding a finished, chrome look. Some stacks come with a top included, while others are sold separately, so check the product listing carefully to see whether you need to order a top along with your stack.

Will these chrome stacks fit my Western Star 4700 without modification?

Most stacks in this category are designed to match common diameters and mounting configurations used on the Western Star 4700, but exhaust setups can vary based on engine, model year, and prior modifications. Always compare the listed diameter, length, and mounting style against your truck's current exhaust system before ordering, and reach out to our team if you are unsure about fitment.

What material and finish should I expect from these stacks and tops?

These products are typically constructed from stainless steel with a mirror-polished chrome finish for a bright, reflective look that resists rust better than plain steel. The thickness and gauge of the material can vary between manufacturers, so review the product specifications to confirm the durability level that fits your needs.

How do I install a new stack or stack top, and can I do it myself?

Installation generally involves removing the old stack or top by loosening the clamp or band securing it, then sliding the new piece into place and tightening it back down. Many truck owners handle this job themselves with basic tools, but if your setup involves welding, custom brackets, or you are not confident working around the exhaust system, having a qualified technician install it is a safer option.

How do I keep chrome stacks and tops looking good over time?

Regular washing with mild soap and water helps prevent road grime, diesel soot, and salt from building up and dulling the chrome finish. For tougher buildup or heat discoloration near the top of the stack, a dedicated chrome polish designed for exhaust components can help restore shine without damaging the surface.
