Volvo VNL Gen III Lights

Frequently Asked Questions About Volvo VNL Gen III Lights

Will these lights fit my specific Volvo VNL model year?

Our Volvo VNL Gen III lights are designed specifically for 2018 and newer VNL models (third generation). These lights will NOT fit 2004-2017 VNL models due to different mounting configurations and electrical connections. Before ordering, verify your truck's VIN plate shows a manufacture date of 2018 or later. The Gen III models have a distinctive redesigned front end with different light housing shapes compared to previous generations.

Are these lights DOT/SAE approved and legal for highway use?

Yes, all lighting products in our VNL Gen III collection carry proper DOT (Department of Transportation) and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) certifications where required by law. Each light displays the appropriate markings on the lens or housing. LED marker lights meet FMVSS 108 standards, and headlights comply with current photometric requirements. Always check your state's specific regulations, as some states have additional requirements for auxiliary lighting.

Do I need special wiring harnesses or adapters for installation?

Most of our VNL Gen III lights are designed as direct plug-and-play replacements using your truck's existing connectors. LED headlights typically include weatherproof connectors that match OEM specifications. However, if you're adding auxiliary lights or upgrading from halogen to LED, you may need additional components like load resistors or CAN-bus adapters to prevent hyperflashing or error messages. We recommend having a basic multimeter and electrical tape on hand for installation.

What's the actual lifespan of LED lights compared to standard bulbs?

LED lights in our VNL Gen III collection typically last 30,000 to 50,000 hours of operation, compared to 500-1,000 hours for standard halogen bulbs. In real-world trucking applications, this translates to approximately 5-8 years of regular use. The aluminum housings and polycarbonate lenses are designed to withstand temperature extremes from -40?F to 185?F, road salt, and pressure washing without cracking or yellowing.

Can I mix different brands or styles of lights on my VNL?

While technically possible, we recommend maintaining consistency in light temperature and brand when replacing multiple lights. Mixing 5000K and 6000K LED lights, for example, creates a noticeable color difference that many drivers find distracting. Different brands may also have slight variations in beam patterns or brightness levels. For the best appearance and performance, replace lights in pairs (both headlights, both fog lights, etc.) with matching products from the same manufacturer.
