Mack CH/CHN/CHU Truck Fairings & Steps

Frequently Asked Questions About Mack CH/CHN/CHU Truck Fairings & Steps

Will these fairings and steps fit my specific Mack CH, CHN, or CHU model year?

Mack updated the CH series body and frame design over its production run, so fairing and step fit can vary between early and later CH models as well as between the CH, CHN, and CHU variants. Always check the listed year range and cab configuration on each product page, and compare mounting hole patterns and frame measurements against your truck before ordering. If you are unsure, have your VIN and cab style handy when contacting our support team so we can confirm compatibility.

What materials are these fairings and steps made from, and how well do they hold up?

Fairings in this category are typically made from durable fiberglass or ABS plastic, while steps are usually aluminum or steel for added strength under regular foot traffic. Fiberglass fairings offer a factory-style finish that can be painted to match your truck, while aluminum steps resist corrosion and hold up well in wet or salted road conditions. Material choice affects both weight and long-term durability, so consider your climate and usage when selecting a product.

Do these fairings and steps come pre-painted, primed, or unfinished?

Most fairings are sold either in gel-coat/primed finish ready for paint or in a raw, unfinished state, so check the product description carefully before buying. Steps are commonly sold in a mill or brushed aluminum finish, or with a diamond-plate tread surface for extra grip. If color-matching to your cab is important, plan on additional paint work after installation.

Can I install these fairings and steps myself, or do I need a professional?

Many customers install these parts themselves using basic hand tools, especially for direct bolt-on steps and fairing brackets that use existing frame mounting points. However, fairings that require drilling, fitting around fuel tanks, or aligning with existing cab lines can be more time-consuming and may benefit from a second set of hands or a shop with truck body experience. Reviewing the included instructions or reaching out to our team before you start can help you gauge the job's difficulty.

Will adding fairings or steps affect ground clearance, fuel tank access, or other components on my truck?

Fairings are designed to fit around existing components like fuel tanks and battery boxes, but spacing can be tight depending on your truck's specific tank size and mounting configuration. Steps are positioned to maintain reasonable ground clearance for normal driving conditions, though very aggressive off-road or uneven terrain use may warrant extra caution. Double check clearance measurements against your truck's setup, particularly if you have upsized fuel tanks or aftermarket components already installed.
