Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth Cabover Mirrors & Acc.

Will these mirrors fit my specific Kenworth cabover model and year?

Our Kenworth cabover mirrors are designed to fit K100, K100E, and W900A models from 1963 through 1990. However, fitment can vary based on whether you have aerodynamic or standard cab configurations. We recommend checking your door mounting points and measuring the distance between mounting holes before ordering. If you're unsure, contact us with your VIN and we can verify compatibility.

What's the difference between West Coast and hood-mounted mirror styles?

West Coast mirrors mount on the door and provide a wider field of view with their larger convex spot mirrors, making them ideal for drivers who frequently navigate tight spaces or city driving. Hood-mounted mirrors attach directly to the hood and offer better visibility for highway driving with less vibration at high speeds. Both styles are available in chrome or black powder-coated finishes. Choose based on your driving conditions and aesthetic preference.

How difficult is the installation, and what tools will I need?

Most mirror installations take 1-2 hours per side for someone with basic mechanical skills. You'll need a drill with metal bits (typically 3/8" and 1/2"), a socket set, screwdrivers, and possibly a rivet gun for some models. The biggest challenge is usually accessing tight spaces behind door panels. Many customers report that having a helper makes alignment much easier. Complete mounting hardware is included with most mirrors, though some older trucks may require adapter brackets sold separately.

Are these mirrors heated or power-adjustable?

Most replacement mirrors for classic Kenworth cabovers are manual adjustment only, as these trucks originally came with manual mirrors. However, we do carry aftermarket heated mirror options for specific models. These require additional wiring but can be retrofitted to most K100 and K100E models. Power adjustment options are limited due to the age of these vehicles, but manual mirrors with improved adjustment mechanisms are available that allow for easier positioning than original equipment.

How do I prevent mirror vibration and ensure they stay adjusted?

Mirror vibration is a common complaint with older cabovers. To minimize this, ensure all mounting bolts are properly torqued to specification (typically 25-30 ft-lbs) and use thread-locking compound on adjustment screws. Adding rubber isolation washers between the mirror bracket and door can significantly reduce vibration. For mirrors that won't stay adjusted, check if the tension springs in the adjustment mechanism need replacement - we stock rebuild kits for most popular mirror models.
