International S1700-S1900 Dash Knobs

Frequently Asked Questions About International S1700-S1900 Dash Knobs

What are dash knobs used for in the International S1700-S1900?

Dash knobs are the control handles used to operate functions such as headlights, panel lights, wipers, heater and defroster controls, and other switches located on the dashboard. They thread or snap onto the metal shaft of the switch behind the dash panel, giving the driver a grip point to turn or pull the control.

Will these dash knobs fit my specific truck model and year?

Dash knobs for the S1700-S1900 series are generally designed to match the original knob styles used on these trucks, but shaft sizes, thread pitch, and knob shapes can vary depending on the model year and which control the knob operates. Before ordering, check the diameter and thread size of your existing knob or shaft, and compare it to the product specifications listed on the item page to confirm a proper fit.

What materials and finishes are available for these knobs?

Dash knobs are typically offered in materials like chrome-plated plastic, chrome-plated metal, or durable molded plastic. Chrome options provide a classic, reflective finish that matches other chrome dash trim, while plastic knobs are a lighter, more budget-friendly alternative. Choosing a finish that matches your existing interior trim helps maintain a consistent look.

How do I install a replacement dash knob?

Most dash knobs simply pull off or unscrew from the control shaft they are mounted on. To install a new one, remove the old knob, check the shaft for damage or wear, and press or thread the new knob into place until it is secure. Some knobs use a small set screw or friction fit, so it is a good idea to test that the knob turns and operates the control smoothly before considering the installation complete.

Why does my dash knob feel loose, spin freely, or fail to operate the control?

A loose or spinning knob is usually a sign that the knob itself has worn out, cracked, or lost its grip on the control shaft rather than a problem with the switch itself. In most cases, replacing the knob resolves the issue, but if the control still does not function after installing a new knob, the underlying switch or shaft may need to be inspected separately.
