Freightliner Columbia 112/120 Dash Nuts & Screws

Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner Columbia 112/120 Dash Nuts & Screws

What are these dash nuts and screws used for?

These fasteners are used to secure the dash panels, trim pieces, gauge clusters, and other interior components in the Freightliner Columbia 112 and 120 models. They are small hardware items designed to hold dash sections firmly in place and keep panels from rattling or coming loose over time.

Will these fasteners fit my specific Columbia model year?

Freightliner made changes to interior components over the years the Columbia was in production, so hardware sizing and thread specs can vary slightly between model years. Always check the listed specifications, including thread size and length, against the fastener currently installed in your truck before ordering. If you are unsure, comparing the part number or measuring the original hardware is the most reliable way to confirm fit.

What material are these nuts and screws made from?

Dash nuts and screws are typically made from steel or other durable metal alloys designed to withstand the vibration and temperature changes common in truck cabs. Some fasteners may include a plated or coated finish to help resist corrosion and maintain a clean appearance over time.

Can I reuse my old dash screws instead of replacing them?

In many cases old fasteners can be reused if they are not stripped, corroded, or damaged. However, dash hardware can wear out from repeated removal and installation, especially on plastic panel inserts. If a screw no longer threads securely or a nut has worn edges, replacing it with new hardware is a simple way to prevent a loose or rattling dash panel.

How do I install these dash nuts and screws correctly?

Installation generally involves removing the damaged or worn fastener, aligning the replacement nut or screw with the existing mounting hole, and tightening it by hand or with a properly sized driver. Avoid overtightening, since dash panels and trim pieces are often made of plastic and can crack or strip if excessive force is applied. If you are replacing multiple fasteners, working in small sections helps keep panels aligned during reinstallation.
