Western Star 5700XE Truck Fuel Tanks

Frequently Asked Questions About Western Star 5700XE Truck Fuel Tanks

Will this fuel tank fit my Western Star 5700XE without modification?

Fuel tanks for the Western Star 5700XE are designed to match factory mounting points and frame dimensions, but tank capacity, strap configuration, and mounting bracket placement can vary depending on the model year and original equipment setup. Before ordering, check the tank's listed dimensions, capacity, and mounting hole pattern against your truck's specifications or your existing tank to confirm a proper fit.

What materials are these fuel tanks made from, and how do they hold up over time?

Fuel tanks in this category are typically constructed from aluminum, though steel options may also be available depending on the manufacturer. Aluminum tanks offer a good balance of durability and weight savings, and most come with a mill finish or polished finish. Regardless of material, routine inspection of straps, welds, and mounting points helps extend the service life of the tank and prevent leaks or corrosion issues over time.

What size and capacity options are available for the 5700XE?

Capacity varies by tank, with common sizes ranging from smaller auxiliary tanks to larger primary fuel tanks depending on your truck's configuration and application. Always compare the listed gallon capacity, diameter, and length against your current tank or your fleet specifications to ensure it meets your fuel range needs and fits within the available frame space.

What's involved in installing a replacement fuel tank, and do I need a professional?

Installation generally involves removing the old tank's mounting straps and brackets, disconnecting fuel lines and sending unit wiring, then transferring or reinstalling those components on the new tank before securing it to the frame. Because this work involves fuel lines and proper strap torque to prevent shifting or leaks, we recommend installation by a qualified technician or someone experienced with heavy-duty truck fuel systems.

Do these fuel tanks come with mounting straps, sending units, or other hardware included?

This varies by product listing, so it's important to check each item's description carefully. Some tanks are sold as a bare tank only, while others may include straps, brackets, or fittings. If your replacement includes a fuel sending unit or specific fittings, confirm the thread size and configuration match your truck's existing fuel lines and gauge setup before purchasing.
