Sterling L-Series Truck Fuel Tanks

Frequently Asked Questions About Sterling L-Series Truck Fuel Tanks

Will this fuel tank fit my Sterling L-Series truck?

Fuel tanks for the Sterling L-Series come in different capacities, diameters, and mounting configurations depending on the model year and chassis setup. Before ordering, check the tank's diameter, length, and mounting strap/bracket style against your truck's specifications to ensure a proper fit. If you're unsure, our team can help confirm compatibility based on your VIN or existing tank measurements.

What materials are these fuel tanks made from, and how do they hold up over time?

Sterling L-Series fuel tanks are typically constructed from aluminum or steel. Aluminum tanks resist corrosion and are lighter weight, making them a popular choice for long-term durability, while steel tanks offer added strength for demanding applications. Regardless of material, regular inspection for dents, leaks, or strap wear will help extend the life of the tank.

How do I know what size or gallon capacity I need?

Fuel tank capacity is usually determined by your truck's original configuration and your typical route or duty cycle. Common capacities range from smaller tanks for regional hauling to larger tanks for long-haul routes. Measuring your current tank or checking your truck's build sheet is the most reliable way to match capacity and physical dimensions.

What's involved in installing a replacement fuel tank?

Installation generally involves draining and disconnecting the old tank, removing the mounting straps and fuel lines, then mounting the new tank in the same location using compatible straps and brackets. It's important to reconnect fuel lines, vent lines, and any sending unit wiring correctly to avoid leaks or fuel gauge issues. Because this job involves fuel system components, installation should be performed by someone comfortable working with fuel lines and proper safety precautions, or by a qualified technician.

Do these fuel tanks come with mounting straps, sending units, or other hardware included?

This varies by product listing. Some tanks are sold as a bare tank only, while others may include straps or a fuel sending unit. Always check the product description and included components before purchasing so you know whether you'll need to source additional hardware, such as straps, sending units, or fuel line fittings, separately.
