Fuel Tank Brackets Straps

Frequently Asked Questions About Fuel Tank Brackets Straps

What are fuel tank brackets and straps used for?

Fuel tank brackets and straps are the mounting hardware that secures your semi-truck's fuel tank to the frame rail. Brackets typically bolt to the frame and support the tank, while straps wrap around the tank to hold it firmly in place, preventing shifting, vibration, and stress on the tank body during operation.

How do I know which brackets or straps fit my truck and fuel tank?

Fitment depends on your fuel tank diameter, frame rail spacing, and the make and model of your truck. Before ordering, measure your tank's diameter and check the mounting hole spacing on your frame rails. If you're replacing existing hardware, comparing the old brackets or straps side by side with the new ones is the most reliable way to confirm a match. When in doubt, reach out to our team with your truck's year, make, and model along with tank specs for help finding the correct part.

What materials are these brackets and straps made from, and how well do they hold up?

Most fuel tank brackets and straps are made from steel or aluminum, often with a protective finish such as powder coating, galvanizing, or polishing to resist rust and corrosion. Steel components tend to offer more strength for heavier tanks, while aluminum options can help reduce overall weight. The right choice usually comes down to your truck's duty cycle and how much exposure to road salt, moisture, and debris the components will see.

Can I install fuel tank brackets and straps myself, or do I need a professional?

Many drivers and shop technicians replace fuel tank brackets and straps themselves, since the job generally involves supporting the tank, removing the old hardware, and bolting on the new brackets or straps. That said, fuel tanks are heavy and can be awkward to handle safely without a lift or extra hands, so if you're not comfortable supporting the tank securely during the swap, it's worth having a qualified technician handle the installation.

How often should fuel tank brackets and straps be inspected or replaced?

It's a good idea to inspect brackets and straps during routine maintenance checks, looking for rust, cracks, worn mounting holes, or any looseness that could allow the tank to shift. Straps that are stretched, corroded, or showing metal fatigue should be replaced promptly, since a failed strap or bracket can lead to fuel tank damage or a safety hazard on the road.
