Kenworth T800 Hoods

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T800 Hoods

Will this hood fit my Kenworth T800 without modification?

Kenworth T800 hoods are designed to match the factory contours and mounting points of the T800 chassis, but fitment can vary depending on the model year and whether your truck has any factory customizations. It's important to check the specific year range listed for each hood and compare it to your VIN or existing hood dimensions before purchasing. If you're unsure, our team can help confirm compatibility based on your truck's build sheet.

What materials are these hoods made from, and how do they hold up?

Replacement hoods for the T800 are typically available in fiberglass composite construction, which mirrors the OEM material used on most Kenworth hoods. Fiberglass offers a good balance of durability and repairability, and it resists denting better than metal alternatives. Quality can vary by manufacturer, so look for hoods with reinforced mounting points and consistent panel thickness.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, or will I need to paint them myself?

Most hoods in this category are sold in gel-coat or primed finish, meaning they will need to be painted to match your truck's color before or after installation. Some sellers offer custom paint-matching services for an additional cost. If color matching is important to your fleet's appearance standards, ask about paint options before finalizing your order.

What's involved in installing a replacement T800 hood?

Installation generally involves removing the damaged hood from its hinge or tilt mechanism, transferring any hardware, lights, or brackets to the new hood, and securing it in place. Because hoods are large and require careful alignment, this job is usually done with at least two people and basic hand tools. Many shops recommend professional installation to ensure proper hinge alignment and panel gaps.

Are aftermarket hoods as reliable as OEM Kenworth hoods?

Aftermarket hoods are built to replicate OEM specifications and are a common, cost-effective choice for collision repair or fleet maintenance. While fit and finish can vary slightly between manufacturers, reputable aftermarket hoods are engineered to match OEM mounting points and panel lines closely. Reviewing manufacturer specs and customer feedback can help you choose a hood that meets your quality expectations.
