Freightliner FLC112 Hoods & Related

Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner FLC112 Hoods & Related

Will this hood fit my Freightliner FLC112 exactly, or do I need to check specific years or configurations?

The FLC112 was produced over a range of model years, and hood fitment can vary based on body style, headlight configuration, and grille setup. Before ordering, compare the part number and dimensions listed on the product page against your truck's original hood, and check with our parts specialists if you are unsure. Providing your VIN or chassis details when ordering can help confirm a correct match.

What material are these hoods made from, and how does that affect durability?

Most aftermarket and OEM-style hoods for the FLC112 are made from fiberglass, which offers a good balance of weight, repairability, and cost compared to metal hoods. Fiberglass hoods can be patched if lightly damaged, but they should be handled carefully during installation and transport since they can crack under stress or impact.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, primed, or unfinished?

Availability varies by product. Some hoods are sold in gelcoat or primer finish, ready for paint, while others may be offered unpainted. Check the individual product listing for finish details, and plan for paint matching if your truck has a specific factory or fleet color.

What is involved in installing a replacement hood, and can it be done without a body shop?

Many owner-operators and independent shops replace FLC112 hoods themselves, since the process typically involves unbolting the hood hinges or hood support brackets, disconnecting any attached components like headlight wiring or hood latches, and transferring hardware to the new hood. However, proper alignment and fitment adjustment can take patience, and having an extra set of hands is recommended due to the size and weight of the part.

Are related components like hinges, latches, and brackets included with the hood, or sold separately?

In most cases, hoods are sold separately from hardware like hinges, latches, springs, and mounting brackets. Check the product description carefully to see what is included, and inspect your existing hardware for wear before reinstalling it on a new hood, since reusing damaged brackets or hinges can affect proper hood alignment.
