Ford F600-F700 Truck DPF & Mufflers

Frequently Asked Questions About Ford F600-F700 Truck DPF & Mufflers

Will a DPF or muffler from this category fit my specific Ford F600 or F700 model year?

Fitment can vary significantly by model year and engine configuration, since Ford F600 and F700 trucks were built over a long production span with different powertrain options. Always check the listed specifications, including inlet/outlet diameter, overall length, and mounting style, against your truck's existing exhaust components before purchasing. If you're unsure, have your VIN and engine information on hand when reaching out to our team so we can help confirm compatibility.

What is the difference between a DPF and a muffler, and do I need both?

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is an emissions component that traps soot and particulate matter from diesel exhaust, while a muffler is designed primarily to reduce exhaust noise. Depending on your truck's emissions equipment and model year, your exhaust system may include one, both, or neither component. Check your current setup to determine which part you actually need to replace.

How do I know if my DPF needs to be replaced versus cleaned?

A clogged or damaged DPF often causes symptoms like reduced power, increased backpressure, frequent regeneration cycles, or dashboard warning lights. In many cases, a DPF can be professionally cleaned rather than replaced, which is typically more cost-effective. However, if the filter substrate is cracked, melted, or physically damaged, replacement is usually necessary. A diagnostic inspection is the best way to confirm which option applies to your truck.

Are these mufflers and DPFs made from materials that will hold up under regular use?

Most heavy-duty exhaust components in this category are constructed from aluminized or stainless steel to resist corrosion, heat, and the demands of daily commercial use. Stainless steel generally offers longer-lasting corrosion resistance, while aluminized steel provides a more budget-friendly option with a shorter service life. Check the product listing for specific material details before ordering.

Do I need professional installation, or can I install a DPF or muffler myself?

Muffler replacement is often manageable for someone comfortable with basic exhaust work and the right tools, particularly if it's a direct bolt-on replacement. DPF replacement is more involved, since it may require resetting or communicating with the truck's onboard computer system after installation to avoid triggering fault codes. If you're not experienced with diesel emissions systems, we recommend having a qualified diesel technician handle DPF installation.
