Frequently Asked Questions About Sterling L-Series Truck Hoods & Related

Will this hood fit my specific Sterling L-Series model year?

Sterling L-Series trucks were produced across several years with some variation in hood design and mounting points. Always check the fitment notes listed on each product page and compare them to your truck's model and year before ordering. If you are unsure, contact our team with your VIN or model details so we can confirm compatibility prior to purchase.

What material are these hoods made from, and how does it hold up over time?

Most replacement and aftermarket hoods for the Sterling L-Series are constructed from fiberglass, which offers a lightweight yet durable option that resists denting compared to metal. Fiberglass hoods can crack under significant impact, so careful handling during installation and daily use is recommended to maximize longevity.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, or will I need to have them painted separately?

Hoods in this category are typically sold in a primered or gel-coat finish rather than a final paint color. This allows you to have the hood painted to match your truck's exact color and finish. Be sure to check the individual product description, as finish options can vary by manufacturer.

What is involved in installing a replacement hood, and can I do it myself?

Installation generally involves removing the damaged or worn hood from its hinge or tilt mechanism, then mounting the new hood and reconnecting any hardware such as latches, hinges, or brackets. While experienced DIYers with the right tools and a second set of hands can often complete this job, many customers choose to have a professional shop handle installation to ensure proper alignment and fit.

Are hood-related parts like hinges, latches, and brackets included with the hood, or sold separately?

In most cases, hoods are sold separately from hardware components like hinges, latches, mounting brackets, and seals. Check the product listing carefully to see exactly what is included. If your existing hardware is worn or damaged, we recommend ordering replacement hardware at the same time to avoid delays during installation.
