Sterling A-Series Trucks

Frequently Asked Questions About Sterling A-Series Truck Parts

What years and models of Sterling A-Series trucks do your parts fit?

Our Sterling A-Series parts are designed to fit A9500, AT9500, A9513, and AT9513 models from 1999 through 2009. Each product listing specifies exact compatibility, but most aftermarket parts cover the full production run. For pre-1999 Sterling trucks or L-Line models, please contact our support team as fitment may vary. Always verify your truck's OEM and model year before ordering to ensure proper fitment.

Are your Sterling bumpers made of chrome-plated steel or stainless steel?

We offer both options depending on your needs and budget. Our chrome-plated steel bumpers feature triple-chrome plating over heavy-gauge steel for excellent appearance at a lower price point. Our stainless steel bumpers are made from 304-grade stainless with a mirror polish finish that resists rust and pitting better in harsh conditions. Chrome bumpers typically need more maintenance but cost 30-40% less, while stainless options provide superior longevity with minimal upkeep.

How difficult is it to install a replacement bumper on my Sterling A-Series?

Most bumper installations take 2-4 hours with basic tools and mechanical experience. You'll need a socket set, torque wrench, and typically a helper to support the bumper during mounting. The main challenges include aligning mounting brackets (especially on trucks with previous collision damage) and routing fog light wiring if equipped. Our bumpers use the factory mounting points. Professional installation typically runs $200-400 if you prefer not to DIY.

Will aftermarket hoods and grilles affect my truck's cooling performance?

Quality aftermarket hoods and grilles maintain OEM airflow specifications and won't impact cooling when properly installed. Our fiberglass hoods include all necessary air dams and ducting to direct airflow correctly to your radiator and charge air cooler. Aftermarket grilles feature the same or improved open area compared to factory specs. However, adding bug screens or winter fronts will restrict airflow and should be monitored carefully in hot weather or under heavy loads.

What's the weight difference between OEM and aftermarket hoods?

Aftermarket fiberglass hoods typically weigh 40-60% less than factory steel hoods. A stock Sterling A-Series steel hood weighs approximately 120-140 pounds, while our fiberglass replacements weigh 50-70 pounds depending on options. This weight savings improves fuel economy slightly and makes installation much easier. The lighter weight also reduces stress on hinges and support springs, though you may need to adjust the hood support springs for proper operation with the reduced weight.
