Peterbilt 589 Dash Knobs

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 589 Dash Knobs

What are Peterbilt 589 dash knobs used for?

These knobs are replacement or upgrade controls for the various switches and levers on the dashboard of a Peterbilt 589, including items like headlight switches, HVAC controls, and other panel-mounted controls. They allow drivers to replace worn, cracked, or missing knobs and often let you customize the look of the interior with different finishes and styles.

Will these knobs fit my Peterbilt 589 without modification?

Most dash knobs in this category are designed to fit the factory switch shafts and mounting points found in the Peterbilt 589 dash. However, dash configurations can vary slightly depending on the trim package or year of the truck, so it's important to check the listed shaft size, thread pitch, and knob type against your existing part before ordering to ensure a proper fit.

What materials and finishes are available?

Dash knobs are commonly offered in materials such as chrome-plated plastic, aluminum, and stainless steel, with finish options ranging from polished chrome to brushed or black finishes. Material and finish affect both durability and appearance, so consider how the knob will hold up to daily handling and match your existing interior trim.

How do I install a new dash knob?

Installation is typically straightforward: most knobs either press onto a splined shaft or attach with a small set screw or retaining clip. In most cases, you simply pull or unscrew the old knob off the shaft, then push or screw the new one into place, tightening any set screw if present. No wiring or electrical work is usually required since you're only replacing the knob itself, not the underlying switch.

Will the printed labels or symbols wear off over time?

Printed or engraved lettering and symbols on lower-quality knobs can fade or wear with frequent use, especially on knobs handled often like fan speed or light switches. Knobs with engraved, molded, or laser-etched markings tend to hold up better over time than those with only surface-printed labels, so it's worth checking how the markings are applied before purchasing.
