Peterbilt 389 Glider DPF & Mufflers

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 389 Glider DPF & Mufflers

Will these DPF and muffler units fit my Peterbilt 389 glider kit without modification?

Fitment depends on the specific engine and exhaust configuration used in your glider build. Because glider kits can be assembled with different engine and emissions setups, we recommend confirming the mounting dimensions, inlet/outlet diameters, and bracket locations against your truck's existing exhaust layout before ordering. If you're unsure, our sales team can help match a part number to your build specs.

What materials are these mufflers and DPF housings made from, and what finish options are available?

Most units in this category are constructed from aluminized or stainless steel to hold up under high exhaust temperatures and road exposure. Stainless versions typically offer better long-term corrosion resistance and a brighter finish, while aluminized options are a more budget-friendly choice. Check each product listing for the specific material and finish called out by the manufacturer.

Do these parts meet emissions regulations for on-road use?

DPF and muffler components sold here are designed to work within diesel particulate filtration systems used to meet applicable emissions standards. That said, compliance can depend on how the part is installed and integrated with the rest of your exhaust and emissions system. We recommend verifying compatibility with your local and federal emissions requirements before installation, especially if you're replacing or upgrading a factory setup.

How difficult is it to install a replacement DPF or muffler on a glider kit truck?

Installation complexity varies by product and by how your particular glider kit was built. Some units are designed as direct bolt-on replacements, while others may require adjusting brackets, clamps, or piping to align with your existing exhaust run. Having your truck's exhaust diagram or measurements on hand before you start will make the process smoother, and a qualified diesel technician can help with more involved installs.

How often do these components typically need to be cleaned, serviced, or replaced?

DPFs generally require periodic cleaning or regeneration to prevent soot buildup from affecting performance, with service intervals depending on your duty cycle and how the truck is used. Mufflers tend to last longer but should be inspected regularly for rust, cracks, or leaks. Following the manufacturer's maintenance guidance for your specific part will help extend its service life.
