Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth W900A Hoods & Related

Will a replacement hood fit my specific W900A model year?

Kenworth made changes to the W900A hood design over its production run, so fitment can vary depending on your truck's year and configuration. Before ordering, check the listed specifications for each hood and compare them to your existing hood's dimensions and mounting points. If you're unsure, contact our team with your VIN or year information so we can confirm compatibility before you buy.

What material are these hoods made from, and how does that affect durability?

Most aftermarket W900A hoods are constructed from fiberglass, which is the standard material used on these trucks from the factory. Fiberglass offers a good balance of weight, durability, and repairability, and it can be sanded, filled, and painted to match your truck. Some related components, such as brackets or supports, may be metal for added strength.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, or will I need to paint them myself?

Most hoods in this category are sold in a gelcoat or primed finish and are not painted to match a specific truck color. This allows you to have the hood painted by a professional to match your existing paint code. If color-matched paint is important for your project, plan on budgeting for paint and bodywork after purchase.

What's included when I order a hood, and are hinges, latches, or brackets sold separately?

Listings in this category typically specify whether hardware such as hinges, latches, springs, or mounting brackets are included with the hood or need to be purchased separately. Because these components can wear out or get damaged independently of the hood itself, it's common for customers to reuse existing hardware or order it separately to match their budget and needs. Always review the product description carefully to confirm exactly what's included before you order.

Can I install a replacement hood myself, or should I have a professional do it?

Swapping a hood is a job that experienced DIYers with the right tools and a helper can often handle, since fiberglass hoods are lightweight but bulky and awkward to maneuver alone. That said, proper alignment of hinges, latches, and body lines takes some care to get right, so many customers choose to have the installation done by a body shop or truck repair facility, especially if paint matching is also involved.
