International 9900/i/ix LED Headlights

Frequently Asked Questions About International 9900/i/ix LED Headlights

Will these LED headlights fit my specific International 9900 model year?

These LED headlights are designed to fit International 9900, 9900i, and 9900ix models from 2004 to 2018. The mounting points and electrical connections are identical across these years. However, pre-2004 models have different headlight buckets and require additional modifications. Always verify your truck's exact model designation (found on your door jamb sticker) before ordering.

Do I need any special wiring harnesses or adapters for installation?

Most LED headlight upgrades for the International 9900 series are plug-and-play with the factory H4 connectors. However, some trucks may require anti-flicker harnesses or CANbus adapters to prevent dashboard warning lights or rapid flashing. If your truck has daytime running lights (DRL), you may need a DRL decoder. We recommend having a multimeter handy during installation to verify proper voltage.

What's the difference between DOT approved and non-DOT LED headlights?

DOT approved LED headlights meet federal safety standards for beam pattern, brightness, and cutoff lines, making them legal for on-road use in all 50 states. Non-DOT lights may be brighter but can blind oncoming traffic and result in inspection failures or citations. For International 9900 trucks used commercially, DOT certification is essential to pass DOT inspections and avoid CSA violations.

How difficult is the installation process and what tools do I need?

Installation typically takes 30-45 minutes per side. You'll need a Phillips screwdriver, 10mm socket, and possibly trim removal tools. The headlight assembly is accessed by removing the grille surround (6 screws) and disconnecting the factory plug. Some LED units require adjusting the headlight aim afterward using the built-in adjustment screws. Professional installation is recommended if you're uncomfortable working with electrical connections.

What's the actual lifespan and warranty coverage for these LED headlights?

Quality LED headlights for International 9900 trucks typically last 30,000-50,000 hours of operation, compared to 500-1,000 hours for halogen bulbs. Most reputable brands offer 2-3 year warranties covering manufacturing defects and LED failure. Be cautious of units with only 6-month warranties, as these often use inferior LED chips and drivers that fail prematurely, especially in extreme temperature conditions.
