International 9200/9400 Hoods

Frequently Asked Questions About International 9200/9400 Hoods

Will this hood fit my specific International 9200 or 9400 model year?

International made several updates to the 9200 and 9400 series over the years, so panel shape, hinge points, and mounting hardware can vary between production runs. Always check the fitment notes listed on the product page and compare them to your truck's VIN or build sheet before ordering. If you're unsure, our team can help confirm compatibility based on your truck's year and configuration.

What material are these hoods made from, and how durable is it?

Most replacement hoods for the 9200/9400 are molded from fiberglass or SMC (sheet molded compound), the same general type of material used on the original factory hoods. These materials hold up well to road vibration and everyday wear, but like any fiberglass component, they can crack or gouge under a hard impact, so careful handling during installation and normal driving conditions will help the hood last.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, primed, or as gel-coat only?

Availability varies by listing. Some hoods are offered in a gel-coat finish ready for paint, while others may be primed. Check the product description for the specific finish before you buy, since matching your fleet or truck color will typically require additional paint work regardless of the starting finish.

What's involved in installing a replacement hood, and can I do it myself?

Installation generally involves removing the old hood from its hinge or tilt assembly, transferring or reinstalling brackets, latches, and lighting components, then mounting the new hood and adjusting it for proper alignment. Many experienced DIYers and shop technicians handle this job, but it does require two or more people due to the size and weight of the panel, plus care to properly align the hood so it closes and seals correctly.

Will my existing lights, latches, and brackets transfer to the new hood?

In most cases, hardware such as latches, hinges, and headlight or marker light brackets will need to be removed from your old hood and reinstalled on the new one, since replacement hoods are typically sold as bare panels. Before installation, lay out all your hardware and inspect it for wear or damage, as this is a good opportunity to replace any worn brackets or fasteners at the same time.
