Freightliner FLD SBA Cab & Related

Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner FLD SBA Cab & Related

What does "SBA" mean, and how do I know if this is the right cab style for my truck?

SBA stands for Set-Back Axle, which refers to the front axle position on your Freightliner FLD. Cab components are designed to match the specific body style of the FLD SBA model, so it's important to confirm your truck's axle configuration and model year before ordering. If you're unsure, check your VIN or door data plate, or contact our sales team with your truck's details so we can verify fitment before you buy.

Are these cab parts made from steel or fiberglass, and how does that affect durability?

Cab components in this category are available in both steel and fiberglass, depending on the specific part, such as cab corners, panels, or extensions. Steel components typically offer more impact resistance and are easier to weld into existing structures, while fiberglass parts are lighter and resist rust, which can be useful for cosmetic panels. Check each product listing for the specific material used, since this affects both installation method and long-term maintenance.

Do these parts come pre-painted, primed, or in raw material finish?

Finish varies by product. Some cab components ship primed and ready for paint matching, while others are sold in raw gelcoat or unfinished steel. If color match to your existing cab is important, plan on having the part painted after installation rather than assuming it will match straight out of the box. Always check the product description for finish details before ordering.

Will these parts bolt on, or do they require welding and cutting?

This depends on the specific component. Cosmetic panels and trim pieces often bolt or rivet into place using existing mounting points, while structural cab parts like corners or extensions may require welding, cutting, or fabrication to properly integrate with your cab's existing frame. Review the installation notes on each listing, and if you're not comfortable with bodywork, we recommend having the part installed by a qualified body shop familiar with heavy-duty trucks.

Will an aftermarket cab part fit exactly like the original factory piece?

Aftermarket cab components are manufactured to match OEM dimensions as closely as possible, but minor adjustments during installation are common due to variations in truck age, prior repairs, or accumulated wear on the original cab structure. Test-fit the part before finalizing any cutting, painting, or permanent mounting, and keep in mind that some trimming or drilling may be needed to get a clean, finished result.
