Freightliner Columbia 112/120 Hood Replace Parts

Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner Columbia 112/120 Hood Replacement Parts

Will these hoods fit both the Columbia 112 and 120 models?

Most hoods in this category are designed to fit both the Columbia 112 and 120, since these models share the same basic cab and hood mounting configuration. However, always check the specific part listing for model year and configuration details, as certain trim levels or production years may have slight differences in mounting points or headlight cutouts.

What material are these replacement hoods made from, and how does it compare to the factory hood?

Replacement hoods are typically molded from fiberglass or a fiberglass-reinforced composite, similar to the OEM Freightliner hood material. This construction offers comparable durability and flexibility to the original while allowing for a consistent fit and finish. Some hoods are sold primed and ready for paint, while others may come pre-gelcoated depending on the manufacturer.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, or will I need to paint them myself?

Most replacement hoods are sold unpainted or in primer gray so they can be color-matched to your specific truck. If you need a painted hood, check the product listing carefully, as some sellers offer custom paint-matching services for an additional cost and lead time.

What is involved in installing a replacement hood, and can I do it myself?

Installing a new hood generally involves removing the damaged hood from its hinges or tilt mechanism, transferring or reinstalling components like headlights, grille, latches, and air intake pieces, then mounting the new hood and adjusting it for proper alignment. This is a job many experienced fleet technicians or body shops handle, but with the right tools and a second set of hands, it is doable in a shop setting. Professional installation is recommended to ensure proper panel gaps and hood latch alignment.

Are the mounting points and hardware compatible with my original hood components, like headlights and grille?

Replacement hoods are manufactured to match the mounting locations used on the original Freightliner Columbia hood, so components such as headlight housings, grille assemblies, and hood hinges typically transfer over without modification. That said, it is a good idea to inspect your existing hardware before installation, since older or damaged brackets and fasteners may need to be replaced regardless of the new hood.
