Western Star 5900 SBA Truck Mirrors & Acc.

Frequently Asked Questions About Western Star 5900 SBA Truck Mirrors & Acc.

Will these mirrors and mirror accessories fit my Western Star 5900 SBA without modification?

Mirrors and mirror components are typically designed to match the OEM mounting configuration for the Western Star 5900 SBA, including arm length, brace style, and head shape. However, mirror setups can vary by production year and cab configuration, so it's important to compare the mounting bracket style and arm length of your current mirror to the product specifications before ordering. If you're unsure, checking your truck's VIN or measuring your existing mirror arm can help confirm a proper fit.

What's the difference between the available finish options, like chrome versus stainless or painted steel?

Finish options are mainly a matter of appearance and maintenance preference. Chrome and polished stainless steel offer a bright, reflective look but require regular cleaning to prevent water spotting and road film buildup. Painted or black finishes tend to hide minor scratches and road grime better but won't have the same shine. All finish types used on these mirrors are intended to hold up to daily highway use when properly maintained.

Do these mirrors include heating and remote adjustment features, or are those sold separately?

Some mirror assemblies come with integrated heat elements or motorized remote adjustment, while others are non-heated, manually adjusted units. Be sure to check the product description for these features, as heated and remote-controlled mirrors often require matching wiring harnesses or connectors that may not be interchangeable with a manual mirror setup.

Can I install a replacement mirror myself, or does it require a technician?

Most mirror replacements on the 5900 SBA involve unbolting the existing mirror assembly from the cab-mounted bracket and transferring or replacing the arm and head as a unit. This is generally a straightforward job with common hand tools. If your mirror includes heating elements or powered adjustment, you'll also need to disconnect and reconnect the appropriate wiring, which may be easier with basic electrical knowledge or a second set of hands.

How do I know if I need a full mirror assembly or just a replacement mirror head or glass?

If the mounting arm, brace, and bracket are still in good condition and undamaged, you may only need to replace the mirror head or glass insert rather than the entire assembly. This can save money and reduce installation time. However, if the arm is bent, cracked, or corroded, or if you're changing mirror styles, a complete assembly replacement is usually the better option.
