Western Star 5700XE Windshield-Wiper

Frequently Asked Questions About Western Star 5700XE Windshield-Wiper

Will this wiper system fit my Western Star 5700XE regardless of model year?

Western Star made some changes to the 5700XE's cab and wiper assembly over the years, so fitment can vary depending on your truck's model year and cab configuration. Always check the listed year range and part specifications on each product page, or contact our parts team with your VIN or model year to confirm compatibility before ordering.

Are these wiper components OEM or aftermarket, and does it matter?

We carry both OEM and quality aftermarket wiper parts for the 5700XE, and each listing specifies which type you're getting. OEM parts are built to original factory specs and are a safe choice if you want guaranteed fitment, while aftermarket options can offer solid performance at a more budget-friendly price. The best choice depends on your priorities for cost versus factory-matched fit and finish.

How do I know if I need a full wiper motor/linkage assembly or just replacement wiper arms or blades?

If your wipers are streaking, not clearing the glass properly, or making noise but still moving normally, you likely just need new blades or arms. If the wipers are moving slowly, unevenly, sticking in one spot, or not moving at all, the issue is often in the motor or linkage assembly. Testing the wiper motor and inspecting the linkage for wear or binding before purchasing can help you order the correct part the first time.

How difficult is it to install a windshield wiper motor or arm on a 5700XE?

Wiper blade and arm replacement is generally straightforward and can typically be done with basic hand tools. Replacing the wiper motor or linkage assembly is more involved, often requiring access behind the cowl panel and some disassembly, so many customers with limited mechanical experience choose to have this done by a qualified technician.

What causes wiper components to wear out or fail on the 5700XE, and how can I prevent it?

Wiper arms, blades, and linkages are exposed to constant sun, road grime, and moisture, which over time leads to cracked rubber, loose linkage joints, or a weakened motor. Regularly cleaning the wiper blades, keeping the windshield free of debris, and replacing worn blades before they damage the glass or strain the motor can help extend the life of the entire system.
