Western Star 4700 Truck Cab Lights

Frequently Asked Questions About Western Star 4700 Truck Cab Lights

What are cab lights used for on the Western Star 4700?

Cab lights, sometimes called cab marker or clearance lights, are mounted along the roofline of the cab to improve visibility of the truck's height and width to other drivers, especially in low light or bad weather. They also add a distinctive look to the front of the truck.

Will these cab lights fit my Western Star 4700 without modification?

Cab lights designed for the Western Star 4700 are built to match the factory mounting locations and hole patterns on this model, so most kits install using the existing mounting points. It is still a good idea to check the listing details and compare bolt spacing or bracket style to your truck before ordering, since running boards, cab height, or prior modifications can occasionally affect fit.

Are these cab lights DOT compliant?

Many cab light kits are designed to meet FMVSS 108 requirements for clearance and identification lighting, but compliance depends on the specific light, its color, and placement. Check the product description or packaging for DOT certification markings, and confirm the lens color and mounting position meet your state's regulations before installing.

What is the difference between incandescent and LED cab lights?

Incandescent cab lights use a traditional bulb and typically cost less upfront, but they draw more power and burn out faster. LED cab lights last significantly longer, use less current, and tend to produce a brighter, more consistent light output. Most cab lights sold today are LED for these reasons.

How do I install or replace Western Star 4700 cab lights?

Installation typically involves removing the old light or factory cover, disconnecting the wiring harness, and mounting the new light using the existing screws or clips. Once secured, you connect the wiring to the truck's existing harness, seal the base with weatherproof sealant if needed, and test the light before buttoning everything up. If you're replacing lenses only versus a full light assembly, the process is even simpler and usually just involves swapping out the lens cover.
