Sterling L-Series Truck Frame Steps & Acc.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sterling L-Series Truck Frame Steps & Acc.

What are frame steps and why would I need them on my Sterling L-Series truck?

Frame steps mount directly to the truck's frame rail and provide a stable step-up point for accessing the cab, fuel tanks, or performing routine maintenance checks. They are especially useful on the L-Series lineup since factory step configurations can be minimal, and aftermarket frame steps give drivers a safer, more consistent way to climb in and out of the truck throughout the day.

Will these frame steps fit my specific Sterling L-Series model year?

Fitment can vary depending on the exact model year and frame configuration within the L-Series lineup, since frame rail height, width, and hole patterns are not always identical across production years. Always check the listed compatibility details on each product page, and if you are unsure, have your VIN or frame measurements handy when reaching out to our team so we can confirm the correct fit before you order.

What materials are these steps made from, and how well do they hold up?

Frame steps in this category are typically made from steel or aluminum, each with different tradeoffs. Steel steps tend to be heavier but very rigid, while aluminum options are lighter and naturally resist rust. Finish options often include plain, painted, or diamond plate treads for added grip, so consider your priorities around weight, durability, and traction when choosing between materials.

How difficult is it to install frame steps myself?

Most frame steps are designed to bolt directly onto existing frame holes or brackets, which makes them a reasonably straightforward installation for anyone comfortable with basic hand tools and a lift or jack stand for access underneath the truck. Some kits may require drilling if your frame does not have pre-existing mounting holes, so it is worth reviewing the installation instructions or reaching out to us before you start if you want to confirm what hardware and tools are included.

Do frame steps affect ground clearance or interfere with other components?

Frame steps are designed to sit close to the frame rail, but it is still worth checking clearance around fuel tanks, exhaust components, air lines, and wiring harnesses before installation, since routing can vary by truck configuration. If you have added other aftermarket accessories to your L-Series, take a quick look underneath to confirm there is no interference before finalizing your step placement.
