Peterbilt 387 Cab Lights

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 387 Cab Lights

Will these cab lights fit my Peterbilt 387 without modification?

Cab lights in this category are designed to match the mounting locations and bolt patterns used on the Peterbilt 387, so they typically install using the existing holes or brackets. However, cab configurations can vary slightly by production year, so it is a good idea to compare the light's base size and mounting style to your truck before ordering, especially if your cab has been previously modified or the original lights have been removed.

What is the difference between the amber, clear, and smoked lens options?

Amber lenses are the most common choice and give off a traditional warm glow that is easy to spot on the road. Clear lenses show the bulb color more directly, often used with LED bulbs to create a bright white or colored look depending on the bulb chosen. Smoked lenses have a darker tint for a more subtle, blacked-out appearance during the day, though the light output at night is generally still visible. The choice comes down to the look you want, since all three styles are built for the same mounting locations.

Are these cab lights DOT compliant for use on the road?

Most cab lights sold for the Peterbilt 387 are intended as marker or clearance lights and are built to meet standard lighting requirements when using the correct bulb color for each position, such as amber at the front and red at the rear. It is the installer's responsibility to make sure the final setup, including bulb color and light placement, meets DOT regulations in the states or provinces where the truck operates.

Can I convert my cab lights to LED, and will they work with the factory wiring?

Many cab lights in this category are offered in either incandescent or LED versions, and LED lights generally draw less power and last longer than incandescent bulbs. In most cases, LED cab lights can be wired into the factory harness without additional modification, but if your truck has aftermarket wiring or add-on accessories already tied into the circuit, it is worth checking for any compatibility issues, such as flickering, before finishing the installation.

How difficult is it to install or replace cab lights on a Peterbilt 387?

Installation is generally straightforward for anyone comfortable with basic hand tools and simple electrical connections, since most cab lights use a plug-and-play style connector that matches the factory wiring. Replacing an existing light is usually just a matter of removing the old lens or housing, disconnecting the wiring, and installing the new light in the same location. If you are adding lights to a cab that did not have them before, some drilling and wiring may be required.
