Mack Superliner Truck Drive Axle Springs & Hangers

Frequently Asked Questions About Mack Superliner Truck Drive Axle Springs & Hangers

What is included in this category?

This category covers the leaf springs and spring hangers used on the drive axle suspension system of Mack Superliner trucks. Spring hangers are the mounting brackets that secure the leaf springs to the frame, while the springs themselves support the weight of the truck and axle assembly, absorbing road shock and maintaining ride height.

How do I know if a spring or hanger will fit my specific Mack Superliner?

Fitment can vary based on axle configuration, suspension type, and model year, so it is important to verify part numbers against your truck's specifications or existing components before ordering. If you are unsure, comparing measurements of your current spring or hanger, or checking with our parts team, can help confirm you are getting the correct fit.

What are common signs that a drive axle spring or hanger needs to be replaced?

Common indicators include visible cracks or rust damage on the spring leaves or hanger brackets, uneven ride height, excessive bouncing or sagging over the drive axle, and unusual noises such as clunking or squeaking when the truck goes over bumps. A broken or worn hanger can also allow the spring to shift out of position, which should be addressed promptly.

What materials are these springs and hangers made from, and does that affect durability?

Drive axle springs are typically made from heat-treated steel to handle the ongoing stress and load of daily operation, while hangers are usually cast or forged steel components designed to withstand constant vibration and weight transfer. Choosing quality materials helps ensure long-term durability under regular use.

Can I replace a spring or hanger myself, or should I have a professional do it?

Replacing drive axle springs and hangers involves working with heavy components under load, often requiring the truck to be properly supported and the axle assembly partially disassembled. Because of the weight involved and the importance of correct torque and alignment, many owners choose to have this type of repair performed by a qualified technician with the right equipment.
