Mack RD Truck Leaf Springs, Hangers & Acc.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mack RD Truck Leaf Springs, Hangers & Acc.

Will these leaf springs and hangers fit my Mack RD model?

Mack RD trucks were built over many years with different frame configurations, axle setups, and suspension packages, so fitment can vary significantly between model years and build specs. Always check your truck's VIN, axle rating, and current suspension components against the listed specifications before ordering. If you're unsure, our team can help verify compatibility using your truck's details.

What is the difference between the leaf spring, hangers, and other suspension accessories in this category?

The leaf spring itself is the curved steel component that absorbs road shock and supports the vehicle's weight. Hangers are the mounting brackets that attach the leaf spring assembly to the truck's frame, allowing it to pivot and flex properly. Other accessories in this category, such as bushings, U-bolts, spring pins, and shackles, work together with the springs and hangers to keep the suspension secure and functioning as designed. Replacing worn or damaged parts across the whole assembly, rather than just one piece, often leads to better long-term performance.

How do I know if my leaf springs or hangers need to be replaced?

Common signs include sagging or uneven ride height, a rougher ride than usual, visible cracks or rust on the spring leaves, worn or elongated bolt holes in the hangers, or unusual noises like clunking and squeaking over bumps. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's a good idea to have the suspension inspected before the wear leads to further damage to other components.

What material and finish options are available for these parts?

Leaf springs are typically made from heat-treated alloy steel for durability under heavy loads, while hangers are usually cast or fabricated steel designed to withstand constant stress and vibration. Finish options can include options like paint or protective coatings intended to help resist rust and corrosion, particularly important for trucks operating in wet or salted road conditions. Check the product listing for specific finish details on each part.

Can I install leaf springs and hangers myself, or should I have a professional do it?

Suspension work involves heavy components under load and often requires specific tools, torque specifications, and safety precautions, including properly supporting the truck and axle during the process. While experienced DIYers with the right equipment may be comfortable handling some of this work, many customers choose to have a qualified truck repair shop install leaf springs, hangers, and related hardware to ensure everything is torqued and aligned correctly.
