Kenworth W900B/W900L Chrome Stacks & Tops

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth W900B/W900L Chrome Stacks & Tops

What exactly are "stacks" and "tops" for my Kenworth W900B/W900L?

Stacks refer to the vertical exhaust pipes that run from the engine up past the cab, while tops are the chrome caps or curved elbow pieces that attach to the top of the exhaust stack to direct exhaust away from the truck. This category includes both the straight or curved pipe sections and the decorative or functional top pieces that finish off the exhaust system on the exterior of the truck.

Will these chrome stacks and tops fit my specific W900B or W900L without modification?

Most stacks and tops are designed to match common diameters used on W900B and W900L trucks, but exhaust setups can vary based on engine, mounting brackets, and prior modifications made to the truck. Before ordering, check the listed pipe diameter, length, and any mounting hardware included, and compare those measurements to your current exhaust system to confirm a proper fit.

What is the difference between the chrome finish options available?

Chrome stacks and tops are typically offered in mirror-polished chrome or stainless steel with a chrome-like finish. Mirror chrome tends to have the brightest, most reflective look but can show water spots or fingerprints more easily, while stainless steel options generally hold up well against corrosion and require less frequent polishing to maintain their appearance.

How do I install a new stack or top, and do I need any special tools?

Installation generally involves removing the old stack or top by loosening the clamp or bracket, then sliding the new piece into place and securing it with the provided or existing clamps. Basic hand tools such as wrenches or a socket set are usually sufficient, though some setups may require additional brackets or sealant depending on how the stack connects to the exhaust manifold or muffler below it.

Are there any regulations I should be aware of when replacing exhaust stacks or tops?

Exhaust height, direction, and emissions routing can be subject to state and federal regulations, so any replacement stack or top should maintain the same basic exhaust path and height as the original equipment unless you have confirmed local requirements allow otherwise. If you are unsure whether a specific stack or top configuration is compliant in your operating area, check with your local DOT office or a qualified truck technician before installation.
