Kenworth T660 Chrome Stacks & Tops

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T660 Chrome Stacks & Tops

What exactly are exhaust stacks and stack tops used for?

Exhaust stacks are the vertical pipes that route exhaust gases up and away from the cab, while stack tops (also called chimney tops or top caps) attach to the top of the stack to protect it from rain and debris while adding a finished, custom look. Together they replace or dress up the factory exhaust piping on your T660.

Will these stacks fit my Kenworth T660 without modification?

Most stacks in this category are designed to match common diameters used on the T660, typically 5 inch or 6 inch, but exhaust setups can vary based on engine, aftermarket exhaust systems, and prior modifications. Always check the listed diameter, length, and mounting style against your current exhaust before ordering, and consult with your service shop if you are unsure.

What materials and finishes are available, and how do I keep them looking good?

Stacks and tops are commonly offered in stainless steel or chrome-plated steel. Stainless resists corrosion well and can be polished to maintain shine, while chrome offers a bright, mirror-like finish but requires regular washing and occasional polishing to prevent pitting or discoloration, especially in areas with road salt or heavy weather exposure.

Can I install a new stack or top myself, or do I need a professional?

Basic stack top swaps are often a straightforward bolt-on or clamp-on job that many owner-operators handle themselves with common tools. Replacing an entire stack, especially if it involves cutting, welding, or reworking mounting brackets, is more involved and is often best handled by an experienced diesel shop to ensure a proper seal and secure fit.

Are there any regulations I should be aware of when changing my exhaust stacks?

Exhaust height, routing, and emissions components are subject to state and federal regulations, and altering your exhaust system could affect compliance if it changes emissions equipment or exceeds height restrictions in certain jurisdictions. Confirm any local requirements and make sure your emissions system remains intact and unaffected before making changes.
