Kenworth T600 Drive Axle Springs & Hangers

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T600 Drive Axle Springs & Hangers

What do drive axle springs and hangers do on my Kenworth T600?

Drive axle springs support the weight of the truck and its load while absorbing road shock, and the hangers are the mounting brackets that attach those springs to the frame rail. Together they keep the rear suspension properly aligned, help maintain consistent ride height, and ensure the axle tracks correctly under load and braking.

How do I know if my springs or hangers need to be replaced?

Common signs include visible cracks or rust-through on the hanger brackets, broken or sagging leaf springs, uneven ride height side to side, unusual clunking or shifting noises over bumps, and premature or uneven tire wear. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is a good idea to have the suspension inspected before the issue affects handling or causes further component wear.

Will these springs and hangers fit my specific T600 configuration?

Kenworth T600 trucks were built over many years with different suspension setups, axle capacities, and spring configurations, so fitment can vary by model year and build spec. Always check part numbers against your truck's build sheet or VIN, and compare spring capacity, hanger bolt pattern, and mounting dimensions before ordering to make sure the part matches your original equipment.

Are these parts made from OEM-grade materials, and what finish should I expect?

Replacement springs and hangers in this category are manufactured to work as reliable equivalents to factory components, using heavy-duty steel construction designed to handle the loads a drive axle suspension sees in daily service. Finishes vary by manufacturer and may include painted, coated, or raw steel options, so check the individual product listing for specifics on finish and corrosion protection.

Can I install a new spring or hanger myself, or should I have a shop do it?

Replacing drive axle springs and hangers involves supporting the truck safely, removing the loaded suspension components, and torquing fasteners to the correct specifications, which requires proper lift equipment and experience with heavy-duty suspension systems. Many owner-operators with mechanical experience can handle this job, but if you are not familiar with heavy-duty suspension work, having a qualified shop perform the installation helps ensure everything is aligned and torqued correctly for safe operation.
