Kenworth T600 Chrome Stacks & Tops

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T600 Chrome Stacks & Tops

What exactly are chrome stacks and tops used for?

Chrome stacks are the exterior exhaust pipe sections that run up the back of the cab, while stack tops (also called exhaust tips or rain caps) are the finishing pieces that cap or dress up the top of the stack. Together they replace or upgrade the factory exhaust piping on your Kenworth T600, giving the truck a custom look while directing exhaust away from the cab.

Will these stacks fit my Kenworth T600 without modification?

Most stacks are offered in standard diameters and lengths that correspond to common T600 exhaust setups, but exact fit can depend on your truck's specific exhaust system, mounting brackets, and whether you have a single or dual stack configuration. Always check the listed diameter, length, and mounting style against your current setup before ordering, and reach out to our team if you are unsure which size you need.

What materials and finishes are available, and how do I keep them looking good?

Stacks and tops in this category are typically made from stainless steel or aluminized steel with a chrome-plated or polished finish. Chrome offers a bright, mirror-like look, while stainless steel tends to hold up well over time with regular cleaning. To maintain the finish, wash the stacks regularly with mild soap and water and avoid letting road salt, diesel exhaust fluid, or heavy grime sit on the surface for extended periods, since this can lead to discoloration or pitting.

Do I need any special tools or expertise to install a new stack or top?

Installation generally involves loosening the clamps on your existing exhaust piping, removing the old stack or top, and securing the new piece in place with the appropriate clamps or brackets. Many customers handle this themselves with basic hand tools, but if your stack connects near turbo or DPF components, or if you are unsure about proper clearance and support, it is a good idea to have a qualified diesel technician complete the installation.

Are chrome exhaust stacks legal, and will they affect my truck's emissions system?

Chrome stacks and tops are exterior cosmetic and directional pieces, not emissions control components, so they generally do not interfere with your truck's emissions equipment as long as they are sized and installed correctly to match your existing exhaust system. That said, exhaust height, routing, and diameter can be subject to state and local regulations, so it is worth confirming that your finished setup complies with the rules in the areas you operate.
