International S1700-S1900 Chrome Stacks & Tops

Frequently Asked Questions About International S1700-S1900 Chrome Stacks & Tops

What are exhaust stacks and stack tops used for on my International S1700-S1900?

Exhaust stacks are the vertical exhaust pipes that route exhaust gases up and away from the cab, while stack tops (also called rain caps or exhaust tips) attach to the top of the stack to keep moisture and debris out of the exhaust system when the truck is not running. Together, they are both a functional exhaust component and a popular way to customize the look of your truck with a chrome finish.

Will these chrome stacks and tops fit my specific International S1700 or S1900 model year?

Fitment can vary depending on the exact configuration of your truck, including the diameter of your existing exhaust pipe and the mounting setup used on your particular model year. Before ordering, check the diameter and length specifications listed on each product page against your truck's current exhaust stack to confirm a proper fit.

What material are these stacks and tops made from, and how do I keep the chrome looking good?

Products in this category are typically constructed from stainless steel or chrome-plated steel to hold up under heat and everyday road exposure. To maintain the chrome finish, regular washing with a mild soap and water solution is recommended, along with a dedicated chrome polish to remove road grime, salt, and diesel exhaust residue before it has a chance to etch the surface.

Can I install a chrome exhaust stack or top myself, or do I need a professional?

Many stack tops are a straightforward slip-on or clamp-on installation that an experienced DIYer can handle with basic tools. Full stack replacement may involve more work, including cutting, fitting, and securing the new pipe to your existing exhaust system, so if you are not comfortable with that level of work, having a qualified shop install it will help ensure a secure, leak-free fit.

Are there any regulations I should be aware of before adding aftermarket exhaust stacks or tops?

Exhaust modifications can be subject to state and federal regulations regarding emissions, noise, and smoke opacity, and requirements can vary by state and by whether your truck is used commercially. Check your local and DOT regulations before making changes to your exhaust system to make sure your setup stays compliant.
