Freightliner SD 108-122 Frame Nut Covers

Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner SD 108-122 Frame Nut Covers

What are frame nut covers used for?

Frame nut covers are decorative caps that snap or thread over the exposed nuts and bolt heads along the frame rail of your Freightliner SD 108 or SD 122. They give the frame a clean, finished look by hiding hardware that would otherwise be visible, and they're a popular way to add some chrome or stainless styling to an otherwise utilitarian part of the truck.

Will these covers fit my specific Freightliner SD model?

Frame nut covers are sized to match standard nut and bolt head dimensions found on Freightliner SD 108 and SD 122 frame rails, but hardware sizes can vary slightly depending on the year and specific build of your truck. Before ordering, it's a good idea to measure your existing nuts or bolt heads and compare them to the listed dimensions to confirm a proper fit.

What materials and finishes are available?

Most frame nut covers are made from chrome-plated plastic or stainless steel, depending on the manufacturer and product line. Chrome-plated plastic offers a lower-cost, lightweight option, while stainless steel tends to hold up better over time and resist chipping or fading. Check the product listing for the specific material used, since durability and appearance can differ between options.

How are frame nut covers installed?

Installation is typically straightforward and doesn't require any special tools. Most covers either snap directly over the nut or bolt head with a friction fit, or thread on similar to a small cap. Since no drilling or permanent modification is usually involved, they can be installed and removed fairly easily during regular maintenance or washing.

Will frame nut covers hold up to road conditions and weather?

These covers are designed to handle everyday exposure to road grime, moisture, and temperature changes, but how well they hold up long-term depends on the material and finish quality. Chrome plastic covers may show wear or discoloration sooner than stainless steel, especially in harsh winter conditions with road salt. Regular cleaning can help maintain their appearance over time.
