Freightliner FLD SBA Cab Lights

Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner FLD SBA Cab Lights

Will these cab lights fit my Freightliner FLD SBA without modification?

Cab lights in this category are designed to match the mounting points and profile of the Freightliner FLD SBA cab, so they typically install using the factory-style locations. However, production years can have slight variations in trim and mounting hardware, so it is always a good idea to compare the light's mounting bracket and wiring connector style to your truck before ordering, especially if your cab has been previously modified.

Are these lights DOT and FMVSS compliant for on-road use?

Most cab lights sold for the FLD SBA are amber or clear marker/clearance lights intended to meet FMVSS 108 requirements for lighting placement and visibility. Product listings will note if a light is DOT approved, so check the specific listing details before purchasing to confirm it meets the compliance standard required in your state.

What is the difference between incandescent and LED cab light options?

LED cab lights generally draw less power, run cooler, and last significantly longer than incandescent bulbs, which makes them a popular upgrade for drivers who want reduced maintenance. Incandescent lights are usually less expensive up front but require more frequent bulb replacement. Both styles are available in a range of lens colors to match your desired look.

How do I wire and install replacement cab lights?

Most FLD SBA cab lights use a simple two-wire connection that ties into the existing marker light harness, so installation typically involves removing the old light, matching the wiring, and securing the new light with the provided gasket and hardware. If your light kit includes a wiring harness or grommets, make sure these are seated properly to keep moisture out and maintain a solid ground connection.

Why do my cab lights fog up, flicker, or fail prematurely?

Moisture intrusion is the most common cause of fogging or corrosion inside cab lights, often due to a worn gasket or a cracked lens. Flickering is usually related to a loose ground, a corroded connector, or a failing bulb rather than the light housing itself. Inspecting the gasket seal and cleaning the wiring connections during installation can help prevent these issues down the road.
